REpair/restoration projects

concordia barn

Ann Arbor MI - This Barn is at Concordia University.  We received a call about needing advice on what to do with the Barn, its on-going maintenance requirements were provoking discussions about its removal.  The removal of this iconic landmark would be a substantial loss, my advice was to notify the public of the situation via an editorial headline "iconic barn to be demolished".   A local neighbor stopped in and left a sizable donation under the condition the barn was to remain.  The Barn needed to be maintenance free, that would mean steel siding and roofing.  For no maintenance and security reasons both, the glass windows had to go; we fabricated full panel dummy windows and surface mounted them over the siding.

Farentino Barn

Bridgewater MI - Substantial structural work completed included timber purlin beam replacements and the entire endwall bent.  The main floor of the barn was lifted as much as 11" to bring the floor back to level.  Several doors were reconstructed, steel roof added and barn repainted.

Holly Township Barn

Building Lift - Full basement foundation replaced and structural steel integrated to improve floor load capacities for code compliant Public Use objective

Kullis Carriage House

Building Lift, Holly MI - This Carriage House required a complete replacement of the basement foundation.  Basement wall height was raised to improve desired functionality as a workshop and select sill timbers were replaced.

McPherson Barn

Lowell MI - A substantial number of structure timber members were replaced, stone foundations repaired and select residing done.

Miodowski Barn

Building Lift, Almont MI - The entire barn was lifted, basements filled, new foundations placed, Barn set, siding in-filled, battens added.

Pridotkas Barn

Richmond MI - Substantial structural distress required lifting the barn back to its proper orientation, replacement of a broken post, straightening the plate timbers and roof, siding and post cut-off to reestablish quality material, then foundation placement and you have a lot happier Barn Owners.

Wade Barn

Building Lift, Ann Arbor MI - Lift and foundation replacement, siding, window, and door work, then repaint.

Schulak Barn

Building Lift, West Bloomfield MI - as a subcontractor to the primary, we lifted the barn, replaced foundations and key structural timber. On the State Register of Historic Places.

Greenmead Barn

Livonia MI - Major structural timber replacements.  Homestead on the National Register of Historic Places

Bouck Barn

Building Lift, Grand Blanc MI - This Barn had previously been moved-in-whole roughly 5 years prior to our arrival.  The new (deep) block-wall foundation was severely cracked and caving inward.  We lifted the back half of the barn, removed block wall,  poured a new concrete wall with pilaster reinforcements anchored by helical pier deadmen

Barto Barn

Building Lift, Brighton MI - The sill timbers were largely rotted away on this Brighton MI Barn.  The roofline was out of shape and the siding was sitting in the dirt.  We lifted the Barn, trimmed off the post and siding to a clean line, excavated/poured new footings then built up an exterior faced stone knee wall to compensate for the amount of material cut-off the siding/post.  The stone utilized was reclaimed from the original foundation.
